Fallon, Timberlake go viral in hip-hop clip - Boston Globe

var archivedState=0; By Mesfin Fekadu Associated Press Writer / September 30, 2010

NEW YORK—Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake are the hottest duo in hip-hop -- for the moment.

They performed a medley of rap hits on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" Wednesday night, and the clip is becoming a viral hit.

Fallon and Timberlake started off with Sugarhill Gang's classic "Rapper's Delight" and then performed jams from artists including the Beastie Boys, the Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z and Eminem.

Fallon, 36, said he's surprised by the success of the skit.

"We never know what's going to viral or get picked up, and this one's beyond what we thought it would do," he said Thursday in a phone interview with The Associated Press.

Though the clip looks all fun, he said, he took the time to get it right before taking the stage.

"You know I really needed to practice. You know I can't rap," said Fallon, who also performed songs by Missy Elliott, Tupac, Kanye West and Snoop Dogg. "I was in my apartment till 2 in the morning the night before doing (the) Soulja Boy (dance) and my wife was like, 'You're crazy!'"

Though Fallon needed to rehearse, he said, Timberlake was obviously a natural: "(He) knew all of his parts, all his rhythm was amazing, so much better than mine. Mine was so bad, my gosh, (I thought), 'I'm going to screw this up,'" Fallon said.

The performance was backed by the house band for the NBC show, the Grammy-winning hip-hop group The Roots. Fallon said that much of the success goes to the rap band and that the skit was a homage to today's generation.

"The thing that makes our show kind of different is that we embrace hip-hop. ... We're that generation where hip-hop is what we grew on," Fallon said.

He also said that office morale is at a high: "Everyone's so smiley and running around the office like very confident today, because everyone sees the blogs and gets the e-mails. It just puts everyone in a great mood."

'Social Network': Natalie Portman was Aaron Sorkin's secret weapon - Entertainment Weekly

Natalie-PortmanImage Credit: Pascal Le Segretain/Getty ImagesIn The Social Network, Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) models Facebook on Harvard’s legendary final clubs, private groups made up of some of the school’s most privileged students. But the clubs are as secretive as they are exclusive, which meant researching them was no easy task for screenwriter Aaron Sorkin. Luckily, he got a hand from one of the school’s most famous alums: Natalie Portman. The star studied at Harvard from 1999-2003 and dated a member of the famous Porcellian Club — and she couldn’t wait to tell Sorkin all about it.

“Natalie Portman got in touch with me when she heard that I was doing this to say, ‘Listen…come over for dinner and I’ll tell you some stories,’” Sorkin said to a group of Harvard students at a sneak preview screening last week. “I would’ve come over for dinner under any circumstances. But that was really helpful.”

Portman also gets a tongue-in-cheek reference in the movie itself, when one character mentions that Zuckerberg became the hottest thing on a campus that included Nobel Laureates, Pulitzer Prizer winners, future Olympians, and a movie star.

Paris Hilton has ANOTHER late night brush with the law - Daily Mail

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 7:41 PM on 30th September 2010

She's been hitting the headlines recently for all the wrong reasons.

And now Paris Hilton may find herself at the centre of  a hit-and-run investigation after boyfriend Cy Waits allegedly hit a photographer outside of Boa restaurant in West Hollywood last night.

Witnesses say the female photographer was knocked to the pavement, but when Waits asked if she was OK,  another photographer responded assuring him she was fine and told him to go.

Paris Hilton Bonnie and Clyde: Paris Hilton and Cy Waits found themselves on the wrong end of the law once again last night after an alleged hit and run in West Hollywood

Waits subsequently returned to the scene after dropping Hilton at her home and later on police were spotted giving him a field sobriety test.

According to RadarOnline, Waits was detained, but later released. He was given a citation and will appear in court at a later date.

Paramedics took the photographer to a local hospital for a cut on her right shin.

Hilton, 29, took to Twitter later and although she made no specific mention of the incident, she seemed to lay blame for the accident on the photographer herself.

'Lovely evening with friends and family ruined by aggressive paparazzi,' she Tweeted. 'They are literally insane!' Paris Hilton

Injured: A female photographer claimed Waits ran over her leg - she was subsequently taken to hospital by the paramedics

Paris has been quite the adventurer recently.

She was arrested in Las Vegas last month for cocaine possession after being pulled over by police who suspected her boyfriend Cy Waits was driving under the influence.

Waits was arrested for DUI, and Paris Hilton was found to have just under a gram of cocaine in her purse.

She insisted that neither the purse nor the cocaine belonged to her.

But Paris was charged and given one year's suspended jail sentence, a $2,000 fine and 200 hours of community service as part of a plea deal.

As a result, Waits was fired from the Wynn and Paris was banned from all Wynn properties.

Hours after her court appearance, the socialite flew to Japan with sister Nicky Hilton to debut their fall/winter fashion collections.

But she found herself being detained and quizzed for six hours at Tokyo's Narita International Airport over the recent arrest and conviction of cocaine possession and obstructing justice.

The sisters were finally sent back to the U.S without being allowed to visit Tokyo.

Paris also caused controversy this week after pictures from 2007 surfaced of troubled actress Lindsay Lohan injecting what appeared to be heroin into her arm.

Other photographs from the same set showed Lohan partying with socialite Paris, and the two of them passionately kissing and cuddling.

Sisterly love: Paris and Nicky flew to Tokyo to promote their fashion line but were promptly on a plane home after Paris was refused entry

But Paris Hilton looked as if butter wouldn't melt in her mouth earlier on last night at Arcade Boutique's 'The Autumn Party' in West Hollywood.

The 29-year-old looked poised and demure at the event, more like an heiress than a Hollywood party girl.

In her classy black dress and understated hair and make-up, she was every inch the well-behaved lady.

Strike a pose: Bonnie Somerville and Demi Lovato were also at last night's event, looking polished and elegant

Britney Spears Remains Under Conservatorship - MTV.com

On Thursday (September 30), Britney Spears met with a judge in Los Angeles to discuss the current status of her conservatorship, which she has been under since February 2008.

TMZ reports that Judge Reva Goetz had requested a meeting with the pop star after the judge had discussed ending the conservatorship with Spears' lawyers at the last few status meetings.

Spears' father, Jamie Spears, was also present in the judge's chambers during the progress meeting. He left the courtroom minutes after Britney, who wore a black dress and black ankle boots.

It was decided that Spears would remain under her conservatorship, according to TMZ. The judge took the stand to announce: "At this time, all orders will remain in full force and effect." The decision came after she met with Spears and her father individually. The judge did give the OK to approve "investment strategies" for Britney's trust; a petition had been filed regarding that matter.

While there seems to be no change in Spears' personal life, she has certainly been a force to be reckoned with since she released her 2008 album Circus. She's managed to once again top the charts, mount a successful tour and even try her hand at acting. This week alone she brought some star power to "Glee," which tackled her hit-filled catalog, including "Me Against the Music."

Much has been rumored about what Spears is working on as far as a follow-up to Circus. After it was reported that Spears might release new music sometime this year, her manager, Adam Leber, was quick to clear the air.

"No new music news right now....Wish people wouldn't mislead you guys with BS info," he wrote on Twitter in August. "Not cool! PS- The guys that ARE working on Brit's next album ARE NOT talking about it..."

CNN's Anderson Cooper Signs Daytime Talk Show Deal - ABC News

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - CNN news anchor Anderson Cooper has signed a deal to host a syndicated daytime TV talk show in the fall of 2011, while keeping his job as host of CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360."

Warner Bros. domestic television distribution and Telepictures Productions announced the deal Thursday, and said the daytime show would cover social issues, pop culture, and human interest stories.

Cooper, 43, will also conduct undercover investigations using hidden cameras, and hold town hall meetings on topics like race, infidelity and Internet predators, Warner Bros. and Telepictures said.

The untitled show will fill a gap in the daytime TV talk landscape left by Oprah Winfrey, who is ending "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in May 2011 after 25 years to launch her cable network OWN.

Cooper, who joined CNN in 2001 and has reported on the Iraq war, Hurricane Katrina and the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, said in a statement that daytime TV was "fun and interesting" and he was looking forward to showing another side of himself.

"The format is unique and you can really go in-depth on a wide range of fascinating and compelling stories. With this new program I hope to relay important information and relate to people and the audience in a completely different way," said Cooper, the son of fashion designer and artist Gloria Vanderbilt.

Under the deal, Cooper will continue to anchor his CNN nightly show.

CNN Worldwide president Jim Walton said Cooper's new venture would be "good for Anderson, good for CNN and good for Time Warner."

David McNew/Getty

Over the years, Lindsay Lohan has undergone rehab at Promises, Wonderland, Cirque Lodge, UCLA Medical Center and now, according to sources, the most famous treatment-center-to-the-stars of them all.

The actress, 24, checked in earlier this week at the venerable Betty Ford Center, near Palm Springs, where she plans to stay until an Oct. 22 hearing to answer to a failed drug test while on probation in a DUI case, sources tell PEOPLE.

A legal source close to Lohan says that although the move could affect how harshly the judge punishes her, Lohan entered the 30-day program "out of a recognition that she really needs the help from professionals and great medical care to help her rebuild her life."

The source adds there's no guarantee Lohan can avoid jail time despite how well she does at Betty Ford or how long she stays. But even if the judge sentences her to 30 days in jail, as he has threatened to do, Lohan may serve less – or no – time because of overcrowding.

Still, another source close to Lohan tells PEOPLE, "She's trying to help herself and she knows the severity of this."

The Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, 100 miles east of Los Angeles, has treated a who's who of celebrities with addiction problems, with recent patients including Keith Urban, who was visited by wife Nicole Kidman during his stay, to the newly named American Idol judge, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.

Other famous faces include Elizabeth Taylor, Kelsey Grammer and Liza Minelli and Lohan's own father, Michael Sr.

Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, says she doesn't know what the office will ask for at the Oct. 22 hearing or to what extent the stay in rehab will influence the prosecutor or the judge.

Robison notes, however, that some of the work that Lohan will do in rehab will help fulfill previous requirements by the court. Lohan was ordered Aug. 25 to attend two behavioral therapy sessions a week, have seven contacts per week with a counselor for chemical dependency issues, attend 12-step classes five days a week, and attend four psychotherapy sessions a week.

Rutgers Student Commits Suicide After Secret Sex Tape - People Magazine

Rutgers Student Commits Suicide After Secret Sex Tape A body found in the Hudson River has been identified as Tyler Clementi, the Rutgers University freshman who committed suicide after his roommate allegedly secretly filmed him having sex.

Tyler, 18, who jumped off the George Washington Bridge on Sept. 22, died from drowning and blunt force trauma, according to the New York Medical Examiner's office. The body was recovered Wednesday.

"Tyler was a fine young man, and a distinguished musician," says the Clementi family's attorney, Paul Mainardi. "The family is heartbroken beyond words. They respectfully request that they be given time to grieve their great loss and that their privacy at this painful time be respected by all."

Authorities say Clementi's roommate, Dharun Ravi, 18, set up a camera in their room and remotely turned it on without Clementi's knowledge. He also tried to stream it live on the Internet.

"Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay," Ravi wrote on his Twitter page Sept. 19.

Three days later, Clementi committed suicide. "Jumping off the gw bridge sorry," he wrote on his Facebook Page, New Jersey's The Star-Ledger reports.

Ravi and another student, Molly Wei, 18, have been charged with two counts each of invasion of privacy after police learned the camera had been placed in the room without Clementi's permission, Middlesex County prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan says.

If convicted, they face up to five years in prison for the charges.

"If the charges are true, these actions gravely violate the university's standards of decency and humanity," Rutgers President Richard McCormick said in a statement. "Our university community feels the pain of his loss, and I know there is anger and outrage about these events."
