Indonesian Obama fears assassination

It appears that President Barack Obama has his very own doppelgänger. A 34-year-old Indonesian man, Ilham Anas, shares an uncanny resemblance to our president. He looks like him. He smokes like him. He’s even a Muslim (Just kidding!). Anas, who says he enjoys being an Obama impersonator, often gets stopped on the street because of his looks. But it’s not all fun and games. With great power comes great responsibility, and Anas sometimes worries that the negative feelings toward America in Indonesia will lead to harm, and possibly assassination.

I’m one of those people who believes that everyone has a lookalike somewhere in the world. I’m just waiting to meet mine. But until then, this totally validates that hypothesis. What do you think, PopWatchers? Do you see the resemblance?

‘Dexter’ producer dishes on Sunday’s episode ‘Teenage Wasteland’; plus, two exclusive clips from the episode!

Randy Tepper/Showtime

“Take It” took it to another level: Last week’s episode of Dexter was a highlight of the season. But with self-help guru Jordan Chase on Dexter’s mind, a highly motivated Lumen at his side, and Quinn’s boy Liddy hot on his trail, there is no time for you to savor — only time to brace for a new episode titled “Teenage Wasteland,” which airs on Sunday. What to expect from the killer thriller’s upcoming installment? Dexter executive producer Manny Coto drops four hints below. (As a bonus, we also come bearing two exclusive clips of “Teenage Wasteland.”)

Tease No. 1: “This episode marks a large step forward in how Dexter views Lumen because Deborah comes to the realization that there is someone else in Dexter’s life, and Dexter has to figure out a way how to explain who Lumen is and what she represents to him. At the same time, a remnant from the death of Rita comes back into Dexter’s life — namely, Astor — who’s never quite gotten over the death of her mom and still blames Dexter for it. In the course of this episode, Lumen inadvertently helps Dexter come to some kind of understanding with Astor.”

Tease No. 2: “Dexter is undertaking his vetting process with Jordan and that involves Dexter becoming a client. And as Jordan picks Dexter’s brain, Dexter starts to pick at clues that Jordan may or may not have left behind. In this episode, he gets a clue that will lead us into the next couple of episodes. But at the same time, Jordan discovers something that could be devastating.”

Tease No. 3: “Having been knocked back down to the file room because of the shoot-out at the club, Deborah finds evidence … that puts her on a collision course with Dexter.”

Tease No. 4: “Quinn is slowly beginning to realize that he’s unleashed a monster in Liddy, and that the person who he hired to get information on Dexter is very close to learning the truth about Dexter’s real life. And he’s not someone who Quinn will be able to rein back in. Liddy is going to follow this to the bitter end, whether Quinn likes it or not.”

Time to weigh in, folks. What horrific things will Dexter uncover about Jordan? When do you think Deborah will figure out the truth about her brother? Are you intrigued by the Lumen-Dexter relationship? Spill your thoughts below. (Be sure to visit EW.com tomorrow to read Ken Tucker’s interview with Peter Weller, a.k.a. Liddy, and Sandra Gonzalez’s break-down of all the action from “Teenage Wasteland” on Monday.)

‘Dancing With the Stars’ scare: Authorities rush to scene after discovery of unknown powder

The Los Angeles Police Department and ABC confirm with EW that police and FBI authorities rushed to CBS Television City Friday after an envelope containing an unknown substance was delivered to the Dancing With the Stars production office. The scare, however, was short-lived: Police cleared the scene after discovering the substance in question was not a hazardous material, but talcum powder. A statement from ABC reads, “Security and the Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles Police Department were immediately notified. Measures were taken to secure the area and ensure the safety of personnel.” The network and LAPD are not revealing any other details at this time.

‘Running Wilde’: Fox not running back nine episodes

Ed Araquel/FOX

Bad news for fans hoping to save Running Wilde: Fox confirmed with EW that they are not ordering a back nine of the Keri Russell-Will Arnett series. Though the freshman comedy has not been officially canceled, the network’s decision to not order additional episodes is concerning — this could mean Wilde might be running off the air sometime soon. The show had been suffering in the ratings: Two weeks ago, the series attracted just 2.9 million viewers. (That number, however, came with some silver lining: It was an 18 percent increase from the week prior.) Fox also decided to bench the series for November sweeps.

A dim glimpse into Lennon's New York days - Washington Post

It's been a John Lennon sort of year. He would have been 70 in October and has been dead for 30 years next month, and I'm beginning to wonder if it will be another few decades before our hagiographic tendencies will subside, allowing history (and filmmakers and documentarians) to tell the fuller and less sentimental Lennon story.

Not wishing to lose a seat on the magical mystery bus, PBS stations are airing two very different Lennonphilic projects this week: "Lennon Naked," on Sunday night, is a made-for-British-TV movie about his falling out with the Beatles and other personal crises, and it reeks so strongly of unintentional parody that it should make almost any Beatles fan wince with embarrassment. It's the perfect example of a bad script basing itself in reality (press clippings, collected lore) and yet still seeming so bizarrely wrong. Even the wigs deserve a laugh track.

On Monday night comes Michael Epstein's "LennoNYC," a personality-packed documentary that lures us in with the promise of a strong thesis - that Lennon's sense of self was inextricably linked to living in Manhattan for the last nine years of his life - only to revert to the same old recollections. Everything in "LennoNYC" is respectful and even guarded, as if he died last week. It's odd how the 30-year distance seems to provide no further honesty or analysis from those who knew him best.

"LennoNYC" devotes much meaningful energy to its subject, and yet, at two hours in length, only one story, as told by record producer Jack Douglas, seems to deliver on the title.

It's a simple vignette, one I'd not heard before: Lennon was showing off his new coat (a silver parka with fur trim, which can be seen in several photographs during his Central Park strolls in 1980), and he was amazed at the simple act of acquiring it. He just walked into a boutique, shopped around and tried some things on. By himself - without a word or an autograph hound or an assistant or Yoko Ono in sight.

He liked the coat. He took out his American Express card, paid for it and walked home. The anonymity and ease of the transaction sent him into the everyday consumer bliss that many of us take for granted.

"Freedom," Douglas says. "Finally he had freedom. That's why he loved [New York]."

Lennon and Ono arrived in New York in September 1971, exhausted by media glare and the legal morass of the Beatles' contested fortunes. They sought nothing short of celebrity asylum.

Crashed out at first in a shabby, two-room Greenwich Village apartment, which delighted them after so many bed-ins in four-star hotels, they immediately sensed a more simpatico energy that soon felt like the only home they'd ever known. (Lennon, most biographers concur, never returned to England.)

Tony Parker Files for Divorce in Texas - Us Magazine

Tony Parker filed his own divorce papers in Texas on Friday, a source close to Parker confirmed to UsMagazine.com. His wife of three years, Eva Longoria, filed on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

PHOTOS: Famous women who've been betrayed

The move comes after the latest Us Weekly reported that Longoria Parker, 35, recently discovered that her husband, 28, has been exchanging personal texts with a mutual friend for nearly a year -- hundreds in just one month.

"Tony is still hoping to keep this as amicable and private as possible," the source tells Us.

Longoria filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences, a move that was anything but surprising to Parker. "He was aware that she would be filing for divorce in Los Angeles," a rep for the NBA star told Us in a statement on Thursday.

Wesley Snipes: Finally Headed to Jail - The Hollywood Gossip

He may have proven that white men can't jump, but Wesley Snipes has also made it clear that felons can't avoid jail time.

The actor - who was convicted of tax evasion in 2008, but spent years going to extreme lengths to avoid his sentence - had his latest appeal rejected by a federal judge this week.

Told he “had a fair trial” and that “the time has come for the judgment to be enforced,” Snipes will finally be heading to the clink.

“Wesley is very disappointed but staying strong and positive,” his lawyer told The Orlando Sentinel.

It’s unclear when or where Snipes will start serving the sentence. So much for always betting on black, though.

‘Ace of Cakes’ to hang up its apron

Food Network

Sour news for a sweet show: Food Network has confirmed with EW that after four-and-a-half years, Ace of Cakes will end its series run in February 2011. The decision to cancel the series was a mutual one between star Duff Goldman and the Food Network; Duff remains in active discussions about continuing his presence on the network, a spokesperson for the Food Network told EW. But never fear; if you head to Baltimore, Md., you can still have your cake and eat it too: Charm City Cakes — the bakery featured on the program — still remains in operation. “We were here before the cameras, and we’ll be here when they’re gone,” a rep for the bakery told EW via email. “People will always want cakes, and we make awesome cakes. Nuff said.”

Steven Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’: Could this be the most awards-laden cast ever?

Spielberg: NBC; Day-Lewis: Bob Charlotte/PR Photos; Oscar Statuette: ©A.M.P.A.S.®

With the news yesterday that Steven Spielberg’s long-in-the-works biopic Lincoln finally has its start date (Fall 2011) and lead star (Daniel Day-Lewis), we couldn’t help but notice the serious accolades adorning every corner of the film already: The director has won three Oscars (and an Irving G. Thalberg Award), and has been nominated seven more times; the star has won two Oscars, and two more nods; the book the film is based on, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, was written by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin; and the screenplay was penned by Pulitzer Prize, Tony, and Emmy-award winner Tony Kushner, who won an Oscar nod for his screenplay for Spielberg’s 2005 thriller, Munich.

That’s a lot of hardware already, enough to make this movie pretty much an automatic Oscar contender for 2012. But first, they’ve got to cast that eponymous team of rivals for Lincoln’s cabinet, his wife, and (likely) his assassin John Wilkes Booth. And in the spirit of Kearns Goodwin’s book, it just made sense to us that the rest of the cast also be a team of rivals… for Oscar nominations. So, forthwith, our guesses for what could be one of the most Oscar-laden casts ever:

First up, Mary Todd Lincoln. Nine years her husband’s junior, she was famously wracked with depression while living in the White House — the death of your 12-year-old son and siblings in the Civil War (fighting for the Confederacy, no less) can do that to a person. Candidates: Hilary Swank (two Oscars); Kate Winslet (one Oscar, five nominations other than her winning one).

William Henry Seward, Lincoln’s Secretary of State and eight years his senior, was long considered the frontrunner for the Republican nomination in 1860, until Lincoln won the support of major G.O.P. party big-wig and newspaper magnate Horace Greeley (cameo by two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks). He survived an assassination attempt the same night of Lincoln’s murder, even though he’d been stabbed in the neck and face. Candidates: Robert De Niro (two Oscars, four other nominations); Tommy Lee Jones (one Oscar, two other nominations);

Salmon P. Chase, Lincoln’s first Secretary of the Treasury, was another Republican candidate for president against Lincoln. He famously put himself on the very first federal $1 bill. Candidates: Kevin Spacey (two Oscars); Sean Penn (two Oscars, three other nominations)

Edward Bates, Lincoln’s Attorney General who was 15 years his senior, was Lincoln’s third major rival for the Republican nomination in 1860. Candidates: Jack Nicholson (three Oscars, nine nominations); Dustin Hoffman (two Oscars; five other nominations)

Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, the leader of the Union Army and 13 years Lincoln’s junior, won the Civil War and was a devoted supporter of the president. Candidates: Philip Seymour Hoffman (one Oscar, two other nominations); Russell Crowe (one Oscar, two other nominations)

John Wilkes Booth, the 26-year-old actor and Confederate sympathizer shot Lincoln in the back of the head at point-blank range mere days after the official end of the Civil War. He was caught and killed by Union soldiers 12 days later. Candidates: Ryan Gosling (one nomination); Casey Affleck (one nomination); Adrien Brody (one Oscar)

So what do you make of this speculative cast, PopWatchers? Do you think hiring only Oscar-celebrated actors proved to be the best policy? Or are there actors with fewer (or no) official accolades who are better fits for these roles?

Ivanka Trump blogs ‘The Apprentice’: Episode 10

Ivanka-TrumpImage Credit: Virginia Sherwood/NBCHi again Apprentice Fans! As we get closer to the finale, we’re seeing more action from the remaining contestants and another intense boardroom. Let’s dive into this week’s episode!

Genius and Goals
Clint’s reward for winning last week’s task was a meeting with Barry Sternlicht, the President, Chairman and CEO of Starwood Properties Trust. I know Barry well and he is a brilliant and very insightful person –and truly a terrific mentor. As expected, Clint was thrilled to meet with him, and Barry gave him some good advice. Barry’s theory is that “genius is perseverance in disguise” which has been the motto of his career. He also pointed out that it’s important to set high goals, because maybe you’ll reach 80% of your goal, whereas setting low goals does not give you the drive to grow. When their meeting concluded, Barry gave Clint an envelope from my father, which contained a $5,000 gift certificate from Pier 1 Imports. Clint was thrilled! He had sold his home and had an estate sale of his belongings, so the prize was appropriate and very much appreciated.

30 Second Spot
In keeping with our credo of highlighting the country’s strongest businesses and industries on The Apprentice, this week we had AT&T and Flow TV – companies that are industry giants. Ted Woodbury from AT&T and Jane Hancock from Flow TV would be serving as judges of the task assignment. Following the promotional themes of the last two assignments, the teams were asked to produce a 30 second television commercial for AT&T Mobile TV. They would be judged on the following three criteria: creativity, positive representation of the brand, and clear and concise messaging. Thirty seconds seems like a short, simple segment to produce– but I knew that this was the most difficult task yet.

With Stephanie and Liza as the remaining members of the Fortitude team and Stephanie as Project Manager, I knew that there were fireworks to be seen! Those two are not friends. And I was eager to see if Octane would continue their winning streak with Steuart as PM and Clint and Brandy as team members.

No Love Lost
Stephanie and Liza started off already at each other’s throats. Stephanie declared that she was “a one-man show with a secretary to handle the paperwork” in reference to Liza’s low input of energy and ideas. Because of this bias, Liza was marginalized to sourcing locations and props while Stephanie conceptualized the commercial. Her two ideas were to be in a sports arena and an office as locations. The sports arena location became a real tough nut for Liza to crack – she was unable to locate a sports arena and unable to find sports-related props, and in the end Stephanie had to let go of the concept. With no other option, Stephanie would have to make the office concept work. When Don visited, he noted that Liza was not given great responsibility and the burden seemed to be on Stephanie. Stephanie was taking a big gamble and it seemed like she was allowing her dislike of Liza to get the best of her. The photographer in charge said the experience was “literally like a high school version of film school.”

Crunch Time
As for Octane, they had a huge time crunch to work around, as they had scheduled six scenes to shoot, including family scenes, an office environment and one in front of an AT&T store where the product could be purchased. I really liked the placement of the store in the ad – I thought it was smart brand promotion and a good use of time in the commercial. When I visited the team, it seemed that Brandy had a marginal role and that Steuart seemed to be leaning on Clint. My concern was that Steuart wasn’t being a strong PM – something that could come back to bite him in the boardroom.

The Boardroom
Fortitude presented their commercial first, and Stephanie gave a great presentation. However, the production value was diminished by two factors, one being that it took 18 seconds before the brand was announced, which was far too long, considering it was a 30 second commercial. The other was that the concept of watching television in the workplace is something that shouldn’t be encouraged and seemed to lack a significant amount of common sense.

Octane had the product upfront and center at the beginning of the commercial which was a strong start, but there was no consistent brand messaging throughout. Plus, the client thought the commercial was a bit campy at times. However, one of the strongest points was that they showed where to buy the product in the outdoor shot which was a smart move, and they showed several good reasons to purchase the product.

On the whole, Octane’s commercial was stronger and well received by both Ted and Jane. Octane won the task – the streak continues! Steuart, as PM, will have the opportunity to meet with Cathie Black, Chairman of Hearst Magazines, and New York’s recently appointed School’s Chancellor, as his reward. I know and admire Cathie. She even contributed a chapter to my book The Trump Card – so I can say with conviction that Clint’s in for a great meeting!

Fire #11
Liza and Stephanie going at it in the boardroom was no surprise to any of us. Oddly, however, during the review of the commercials, both Stephanie and Liza said they got along well throughout the task. Anyone watching knew that wasn’t the case, as Stephanie repeatedly said she felt like a team of one, and had relegated Liza to specific tasks vs. overall participation. When questioned, Liza admitted she wasn’t strong out in the field and Don mentioned that not only was it clear that Stephanie was in charge, but that Liza’s choices during the task were dubious. When it came time to discuss Stephanie’s performance, I mentioned to her that a concept has to evolve and be developed and this one had not been. Additionally, I told Liza that I’d never heard her truly contribute and both Don and I commented that she consistently seems to take a somewhat ancillary role. In the end, I felt they had both been weak in their individual roles, and as a team they didn’t work either. My father seemed to feel the same way, and fired Stephanie as she had been PM. Liza did not get off the hook, though – he let her know in no uncertain terms that he was not happy with her and that she’d better get her act together.

Stephanie has great energy, business skills and enthusiasm, and I know that she’ll find the right job and meet with success. We wish her well.

Enjoy your weekend, and I look forward to seeing you in the Boardroom next week!

‘The City’ star Olivia Palermo working on her own TV show

Olivia-PalermoImage Credit: Jim Wright/MTV All right everyone, gird your loins! Olivia Palermo, the villain of MTV’s The City, is stepping back onto the small screen. Elle reports that Palermo confirmed the news herself while in Barcelona this week. “[I'm] working on a new television project, my own show,” she said. No word on the show’s details just yet; reps for both Palermo and MTV did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.

We’ve seen Palermo take credit for pulling winning looks at Diane von Furstenberg, and straddle the line between mediocre and termination-worthy performance as an Accessories “Editor” at Elle. Will her future project continue to follow Olivia “The Career Woman,” or will we get to know Olivia “The Person”? (What do we really know about this so-called socialite, anyway?) Whatever it may be, let’s just hope that a starring vehicle doesn’t mean fewer passive-aggressive coffee dates … because those death stares are the money shots, folks. Isn’t Olivia at her best when she’s at odds with someone else?

Personally, I’d love to see her judge a reality competition show — I’m not sure if she’s the host-type — if only for her inevitable snide remarks and overall disinterest in being there. What say you, PopWatchers? Is The Olivia Show just what Palermo had her eyes on all along? Now that The City has been canceled, would you like to see Olivia return to TV?

Lindsay Lohan loses ‘Inferno’ role: Is this for the best?

Another day, another piece of seemingly bad news for Lindsay Lohan. After months of sticking by the actress throughout her legal troubles, director Matthew Wilder has confirmed that he will be recasting the actress’ role as porn star Linda Lovelace in the upcoming biopic Inferno. It might seem another signal that Lohan’s career has burnt out, but, then again, is this pink slip the best thing that could happen to the actress? (At least in a good long while.)

Though the role would have garnered plenty of press for Lohan (like she needs it) — and biopics are generally a good way to capture the critics’ attention — perhaps a post-rehab Lohan would be better served straying as far away as possible from sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Even if the debauchery is only on screen. It’s no secret that Deep Throat actress Lovelace was once involved with drugs, and though parallels between Lohan and Lovelace could bring out a compelling performance, it can’t possibly be wise for a newly reformed addict to jump knee-deep into the role of a fellow drug user.

Not to mention the fact that Lohan could use a break from the heat surrounding her in Hollywood. As much as we’d like to root for a Lohan comeback — or not — the actress is better served focusing on her recovery than her reemergence on the big screen. And though she might not ever stray away from paparazzi cameras — or worse, reality TV cameras — a certain Deep Throat actress famously turned around her life. So why can’t Lohan?
