‘Modern Family’ scoop: Luke schools Gloria, and Manny turns 13!

Rico-Rodriguez-Nolan-GouldImage Credit: Bob D'Amico/ABCRico Rodriguez and Nolan Gould took some time out from attending the Megamind premiere in Hollywood last week to tease some upcoming episodes of ABC’s Modern Family. Look for Gould’s Luke Dunphy to school his step-grandma and Rodriguez’ Manny Delgado to become immature — fast. First up: Luke’s role as an accidental teacher. “Jay (Ed O’Neill) teaches Manny how to ride a bike and Gloria (Sofia Vergara) decides she wants to learn to but it goes horribly between her and Jay,” Rodriguez tells EW exclusively. “She needs a more motherly type of person so Luke is her guy!”

“Luke is going to teach Gloria how to ride a bike!” adds Gould. “It is pretty cool. Jay tried but it doesn’t work because he is a bad teacher and gets too frustrated. So she goes over to my house looking for my dad to teach her but he is busy and can’t do it. I happen to be at the house and my play date cancels so I convince Gloria to let me teach her. He teaches in a very strange way. He’s got a technique where he forces her to learn with a water gun. I also use it on my sister Haley (Sarah Hyland). I’m trying to teach her how to do her homework.”

In another episode, Rodriguez says his character celebrates his 13th birthday by “trying to shove my entire childhood into one day.” “Manny was born an old man so he realizes that he never really did the normal kid stuff so he tries to do everything he was supposed to do in a couple of hours,” Rodriguez tells EW. “For example…making a prank call. He has never done that before and he doesn’t do it well.” – With reporting from Carrie Bell

Changes in store for ‘Lopez Tonight’

George-LopezImage Credit: Gavin Bond/TBSThe much-anticipated debut of Conan O’Brien’s talk show Conan Nov. 8 on TBS will give George Lopez the rare opportunity to relaunch his year-old TBS talk show, Lopez Tonight, in a new midnight time slot. This season, Lopez has been in 21st place among basic-cable shows, averaging 864,000 people ages 18–49, behind 11 p.m. competitors like Family Guy reruns (1.5 million), Law & Order: SVU repeats (929,000), and The Daily Show (917,000). Now executive-produced by late-night guru Robert Morton (Late Show With David Letterman), Lopez Tonight will follow O’Brien’s production schedule—four days a week, up from three. And just like O’Brien and the other late-night hosts, Lopez will start performing live to tape.

Previously Lopez would spin his wheels in front of cameras for two and a half hours before his show was edited for broadcast. “I’m a big believer in old-school training,” Morton tells EW. “We have to make it feel like it’s happening now, live. It has to have that pace.”

Other tweaks that Morton says are in store for the show include moving the taping from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. each day to attract “better audiences” looking for that “night-out experience,” along with a new set that will separate Lopez’s desk from the performing area (“Viewers like to know the geography of a show”). Look for more conceptual funny pieces and remote packages, Morton promises, and shorter interviews. “These guys just needed liberation,” explains Morton. “I told George not to sell the comedy card too hard. He should feel free to write anything. Conan’s taking chances, so he should follow that lead.”

Lopez’s relaunch-week guests include Denzel Washington, Hilary Duff, and Bret Michaels.

For now, TBS is keeping mum about what type of ratings it hopes O’Brien’s new show will average or whether Conan is expected to eclipse The Daily Show at 11 p.m. “We expect him to be competitive,” says Michael Wright, head of programming for TBS. But Wright has no doubt that O’Brien will have an immediate impact on TBS’ existing late-night franchise. “George has done an admirable job developing a brand-new show from scratch with four different lead-ins on four different nights,” says Wright. “Audience flow is crucial. We expect Conan to be a win-win for George.”

‘Undercover Boss’ hits series low opposite football and baseball

undercover-bossImage Credit: Michael Yarish/CBSSerious competition from NFL football on NBC and Game 4 of the World Series on Fox wreaked havoc on on CBS’ The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss. The competition show at 8 p.m. averaged 2.9 rating/7 share in 18-49 — down 17% from last week and also a season low, according to early estimates from Nielsen. It averaged 9.1 million. At 9, Boss earned a 2.9/7 — down 10% to its lowest-rated telecast ever. The sophomore show averaged 10.3 million. CSI: Miami at 10, meanwhile earned a 2.6/7 and averaged 9.8 million.

Each 18-49 ratings point represents 1.3 million.

But hey, it’s not so easy to go up against football and baseball. Fox ruled the night in viewers (15.2 million) but NBC won the night in the 18-49 demographic (5.2/14) because of the matchup between the last two Super Bowl victors, the Steelers and the Saints. The game itself averaged a 6.6/17 in the demographic. Fox came in second in the demo (4.7/13) because Game 4 earned a 4.3 rating. CBS was third with a 2.4/7 and 10.0 million eyeball.s

As for ABC, which finished fourth with a 2.2/6 and 7.9 million, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition finished with a 1.8/5 and 6.6 million viewers, followed by Desperate Housewives (3.5/9, 10.9 million) and Brothers & Sisters (2.3/6, 8.1 million).

‘How I Met Your Mother’: Jorge Garcia, Nicole Scherzinger talk guest spots

Rocky-Jorge-Nicole_240.jpg Image Credit: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images Excellent news for Jorge Garcia fans: The Lost guy’s coming to How I Met Your Mother! Garcia told EW exclusively that he’s “popping up here and there” in projects like ABC’s upcoming mid-season comedy Mr. Sunshine that stars Matthew Perry and “a little thing on How I Met Your Mother.”

“I can’t say much about the episode but I can assure you that I am not the mother,” Garcia said while attending (and dressing appropriately for) last week’s 35th Anniversary tribute to Rocky Horror Picture Show. “It looks like it is the Thanksgiving episode. I am not a super villain. I come in as a friend of one of the main characters. It was a lot of fun working with them.”

Nicole Scherzinger, who was at the same premiere (as evidenced by the awesome photo), says she’s also set to make an appearance on HIMYM. “My character’s name is Jessica Glitter. I am Robin’s best friend from when she was Robin Sparkles. We had a famous show in Canada and I blow back into her life. We just might be unearthing another embarrassing music video from back in the day.” – With reporting from Carrie Bell

Enough with the flashmob ads, please

The first time I saw an Improv Everywhere musical performance, I thought, hey, cool. When I saw the concept adapted as an ad, with Antwerp’s Central Station getting a dose of The Sound of Music, I thought, hey, fair enough. And then it happened again and again and again, from the Single Ladies dance in London to the Liverpool Street Station. And now it’s happened yet again, this time at Heathrow:

Maybe enough already? Spontaneous expressions of creativity and mischief are great, but at a certain point, you’re just accidentally in a T-Mobile commercial. It’s not a movement to reclaim public space anymore, or to experience a moment of unexpected joy. It’s a cell phone ad. How thrilling and subversive!

Are you getting weary of these ads, PopWatchers, or would you like to be serenaded when you head to baggage claim, no matter the reason?

Mary Tyler Moore to Guest on Betty White's Sitcom - ABC News

TV Land is reuniting Mary Tyler Moore with her 1970s sitcom sidekick Betty White.

The network announced Tuesday that Moore will guest star on the second-season premiere of White's hit comedy, "Hot in Cleveland." TV Land says the episode will air in January.

Moore's guest appearance will be the first time she and White have acted on screen together since "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" went off the air more than three decades ago. On that classic sitcom, Moore was an assistant news producer at a TV station, while White played the host of a homemaking show.

On "Hot in Cleveland," White plays a landlady to three eccentric best friends from Los Angeles who move to Cleveland. It also stars Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick (MA'-lik).

‘Women of SNL’ special: What part was your favorite?

Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, Nora Dunn, Rachel Dratch, Cheri Oteri, Ana Gasteyer, Kristin Wiig, Amy Poehler, Laraine Newman, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus headlined the Women of SNL special last night, wrapping some classic sketches with a few new intros and one new sketch. I could watch this Real Housewives spoof all damn day. We’re fambly!

(I seriously thought Tina Fey was Shenae Grimes in that clip.)

No matter how many times I see the Debbie Downer Disneyworld sketch, I crack up — corpsing is hilarious, whether it’s Lindsay Lohan getting the giggles, or Candice Bergen and Gilda Radner breaking. But as funny as these old sketches are, I was a little disappointed that the show hardly included any new content. My kingdom for a new Fey/Poehler Weekend Update!

What did you think, PopWatchers? I was sad not to see any Sweeney Sisters, and did Ellen Cleghorne appear at all? What classic sketches did you think were missing?

Ricky Martin cried 'like a baby' after revealing his sexuality - CNN

"I couldn't take it anymore," Ricky Martin says of the decision to come out.Ricky Martin sent out an email saying that he was a "fortunate homosexual man" Then the magnitude of what he had done hit himSinger says his kids are why he could no longer avoid his talking about his sexuality

(PEOPLE) -- Ricky Martin put on a brave face last March when he revealed to the world that he is gay.

But behind the scenes the singer was caught up in a maelstrom of emotion, he tells Oprah Winfrey in an interview airing on her show Tuesday.

On the day he sent out an e-mail announcing, "I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man," Martin says he first felt "numb" and then "relieved."

Then, he said, the magnitude of what he'd done hit him.

PEOPLE: Ricky Martin thanks fans for their support

"When I realized, okay, I just pressed send, whoo ... I was alone," Martin, 38, says. "I was in my studio alone for a minute. My assistant walked in and I just started crying like a little baby. I started crying."

Martin is father to 2-year-old twin sons, Valentino and Matteo, via a surrogate and says his kids are the reason he felt he could no longer sidestep questions about his sexuality.

"I couldn't take it anymore," he says of the decision to come out. "It was too painful. But I guess the most important thing is my children ... When I was holding them in my arms I was like, 'What, am I gonna teach them how to lie?' Whoa, that is my blessing right there. Then, when I was holding my children I said, 'Okay, it's time to tell the world.' "

Charlie Sheen Reveals Broken Marriage, Seeks Custody in Divorce Documents - ABC News

It seems Charlie Sheen's Christmas Day assault on Brooke Mueller took more of toll on their marriage than anyone realized.

In divorce documents filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Sheen reveals that he and Mueller have been separated since Dec. 25, 2009, the day that he got arrested on domestic violence charges after allegedly pulling a knife on her. Sheen cites "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the divorce.

CLICK HERE to see Charlie Sheen's divorce filing.

According to the filing, the 45-year-old actor, who pleaded guilty in August to misdemeanor assault in exchange for probation and rehab, believes that any money he made after Dec. 25 belongs to him alone and isn't subject to community property laws. That includes the last 10 months of pay from "Two and a Half Men." Sheen reportedly makes close to $2 million per episode of the hit CBS sitcom.

The divorce filing details that Sheen and Mueller, 33, had a pre-nuptial agreement. To that end, Sheen claims "separate property" over everything he made prior to their May 2008 marriage.

Sheen is also asking for joint custody of the couple's 18-month-old twins, Bob and Max. In a separate divorce filing, according to People magazine, Mueller asked for primary physical custody of the boys with visitation rights for Sheen.

TMZ.com obtained a previous property settlement the couple signed in May in which Sheen agreed to pay Mueller $55,000 a month in child support. He also agreed to pay her $1 million to keep the couple's home and an additional lump sum payment of $757,689.70.

Fox and Cablevision resolve carriage dispute in New York area

Fox Networks and Cablevision announced today they have reached an agreement in principle for a new carriage agreement involving more than 3 million households through Connecticut, parts of New Jersey, the New York area and a small part of Philadelphia area.  The signals were restored Saturday prior to the first pitch of World Series Game 3 on Fox.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. An impasse between the two companies led to the loss of Fox programming on the Cablevision systems on Oct. 16.

Cablevision released this statement:  “In the absence of any meaningful action from the FCC, Cablevision has agreed to pay Fox an unfair price for multiple channels of its programming including many in which our customers have little or no interest.  Cablevision conceded because it does not think its customers should any longer be denied the Fox programs they wish to see. Cablevision thanks its customers for understanding the reasons for the dispute and for staying with us.  We are also grateful to the 175 government leaders who raised their voices to urge government intervention and binding arbitration to prevent this blackout.  It is clear the retransmission consent system is badly broken and needs to be fixed.”

The dispute involved the distribution of programming on WNYW FOX5 and WWOR My9 in New York, WTXF FOX29 in Philadelphia, and the cable channels FOX Deportes, FOX Business Network, and Nat Geo WILD.

PopWatch Confessional: Which cheesy cartoon moments make you cry?

American-Tail-FeivelImage Credit: Everett CollectionThis past weekend, I found myself watching An American Tail at 2 a.m. No, I wasn’t cruising for a nice bout of depression (“Somewhere Out There,” anyone?); I simply felt like falling in love with it all over again. It was one of those random movie cravings. You know the kind.

But before I pressed play, I told myself I’d fast-forward through the especially tear-inducing parts so as not to be the person who weeps by themselves in the middle of the night. So I didn’t watch when Fievel got separated from his family, and I didn’t watch the part where a pair of bullies gave the lonely little mouse a bed of straw to sleep on. They were obviously sad parts, and I’m not into cartoon self-flagellation. (Confession: I still haven’t worked up the courage to watch Up.) Then, I was caught off-guard when I found myself weeping during the happy ending (of all things!). There was something about watching disheveled Fievel follow the sound of his papa’s voice to reunite with his family that just had me bawling.

I immediately recognized the cheesiness of the situation, but I couldn’t help it. I hadn’t anticipated being moved by a predictable happy ending. Maybe the cynical, grown-up in me thought I was beyond it. Apparently I’m not. Sometimes, you can’t help but be moved by cartoon corniness.

We all cried during Toy Story 3, during that heartbreaking Peanuts episode, during that dog episode of Futurama, and during every Pixar movie. But what I want to know, PopWatchers, is which really cheesy cartoon moments get you every time?

Box Office Report: ‘Saw 3D’ goes out on top with $24.2 mil

SAW-3D-HoffmanImage Credit: Brooke PalmerMoviegoers were kind (or bloodthirsty) enough to provide the Saw franchise one last hurrah. Saw 3D, the seventh and supposed final entry in the successful horror series, imprisoned its competition and won the weekend by grossing $24.2 million, according to studio estimates. That’s up from the last Saw movie, Saw VI, which opened to a dull $14.1 million a year ago. However, Saw 3D‘s $24.2 million is only the fifth best debut for the series, so it’s clear that the franchise has lost some of its luster. Nevertheless, Lionsgate was quick to point out that the film, with a budget of less than $20 million, will still make a profit. According to the studio, 92 percent of Saw 3D‘s earnings came from 3-D screens, and 57 percent of the audience was less than 25 years old. CinemaScore audiences gave the flick a mediocre “B-” grade. Saw 3D will almost certainly tumble next weekend, but that’s been a common occurrence for the series — a series that, when all is said and done, will be buried with a domestic total of more than $400 million.

With Saw 3D as the only new wide release this weekend, the rest of the top five was occupied by holdovers that displayed varying signs of stamina. Last weekend’s winner, Paranormal Activity 2, plunged 59 percent for $16.5 million. The horror sequel has made $65.7 million after two weeks — a tremendous figure considering the film’s $3 million budget. But it appears the film may run out of steam before reaching the original movie’s final gross of $107.9 million. Summit’s Red remained in third place, dropping only 28 percent for $10.8 million and a cumulative tally of $58.9 million. The action comedy’s endurance, fueled mostly by older moviegoers, has been one of the most notable surprises this season. In fourth place, Jackass 3D plummeted 61 percent for a weekend grab of $8.4 million. The $20 million human spectacle will cross the $100 million mark today — the first R-rated comedy to do so since last year’s It’s Complicated. Rounding out the top five was Clint Eastwood’s supernatural drama Hereafter, which dropped 47 percent for $6.3 million.

In limited release, the Hilary Swank drama Conviction expanded to 565 theaters and earned a respectable $1.8 million — enough for 10th place. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, the Swedish film adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s third novel in the Millennium Trilogy, debuted in 13th place with $915,000 from 153 locations. The indie drama Welcome to the Rileys, starring Kristen Stewart and James Gandolfini, was given the cold shoulder by moviegoers. It grossed only $45,000 from 10 sites.

Check back next weekend as three new films — the Robert Downey Jr. comedy Due Date, Tyler Perry’s drama For Colored Girls, and DreamWorks’ animated Megamind — will battle for your money. And, no, you cannot buy a movie ticket with leftover Baby Ruths.

1. Saw 3D — $24.2 mil
2. Paranormal Activity 2 — $16.5 mil
3. Red — $10.8 mil
4. Jackass 3D — $8.4 mil
5. Hereafter — $6.3 mil
